Small town, big dreams: a student finds her place at UC

Adalyn Heins, CAHS ’26, knew she was ready for a bigger arena. She had grown up in Johnstown, Ohio, a town of 5,300 about 30 miles east of Columbus. As she looked toward college, she wanted to be part of a community that offered more opportunities than what her hometown provided.

Hoffman Scholars begin a year of exploration and engagement

The second year of the Hoffman Honors Scholars program (HHS) is in full swing. This fall, University of Cincinnati faculty and staff welcomed 22 new students as the second cohort of the Hoffman Honors Scholars program (HHS). Students from UC’s College of Arts and Sciences, College-Conservatory of Music and the Carl H. Lindner College of Business are provided tuition, room and board and a plethora of community tools and skill-training.

Gift to UC College of Medicine covers tuition for 10 students

September 23, 2025

A $2 million gift from an anonymous donor will fund the tuition of another 10 medical students in the incoming class at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. In 2020, a generous donation of $6.9 million established the Webster-Gustin Medical Scholarship Fund. Four classes of 10 medical students received scholarships, and a subsequent gift in May 2025 supported a fifth class.

Business student finds UC experience to be a life-changer

Growing up on a horse-boarding farm in Johnstown, Ohio, just northeast of Columbus, Thomas Dyer, Bus ’26, fed horses, baled hay, and helped care for a group of alpacas that he adored. But deep down, he knew that he wanted to go to college and pursue his interest in technology and economics. After applying to several schools, he received an unexpected email from UC’s Lindner College of Business. The Honors Program was requesting a secondary screening interview.

The University of Cincinnati Foundation has appointed five distinguished alumni to serve as trustees. Scott DeVenny, Bus ’92; Brian Driscoll, CECH ’92; Tim Fogarty, Bus ’80; Susan Opas, Nur ’71, PhD and Christie Wolf, Bus ’91 will begin their service in October 2025.

For Maya Huffman, Law ’26, there was no doubt, no hesitation, no unexpected detours on her career path. She knew when she was in high school that she would pursue a career in public service law. Today, as one of three Arthur Russell Morgan Fellows at UC’s College of Law, she is one year away from achieving that dream.
